From wild to still — a whole life in three and a half minutes.
The poem opens with the Yellow River falling out of heaven and closes with a man selling his horse and his furs to buy one more round against ten thousand years of sorrow. The score follows that curve — wine and laughter first, then everything withdrawing a layer at a time, until all that is left is the sound of a cup set down.
Composed for the film and released as a complete recording, for anyone who wants the music to keep going after the picture stops.
When life gives you its good hour, drain it —
never let the golden cup stand empty facing the moon.
